Overview:

1) Installers should reference the technical installation documents from the manufacturer website for specifications.

Step by Step Guide to Reach Technical Installation Documents (click to expand)

  • Click on 'Technical Resource Guide' which will take you to the resources linked below.

  • Please review all relevant documents / Technical resources which are not crossed out.

2) Installers are responsible for obtaining certifications required to be a certified installer with QCells.

Design Requirements:

String Sizing Requirements

  • Maximum 11 AC modules per branch circuit (maximum 20A breaker)

    • 1.45A max continuous output for each AC module

  • Voltage Rise (Refer to system design guide, VRise calculations - here)

    • Under 2%

    • Consider using 10 AWG for longer runs or if approaching 11 AC modules per branch circuit.

  • Maximum count per system

    • 144 AC modules

      • 44 for 1 x Q.Home combiner & +100 using off the shelf combiner box (see image below)

        • If greater than 44 - need external production CT - (P2 on GEM board).

          • See technical resources for specifications.

Click for String Sizing Requirement visuals

  • Maximum system With Battery (PW3 ONLY)

    • Only PW3 acceptable

      • 7.68 AC kW per PW3

      • 10 kW with expansion (See QCells application note - here)

  • Equipment location

    • No direct sunlight

    • No southern facing

Installation Requirements

Rail Placement with respect to micro inverters (click to expand)

  • Ensure rail position is not obstructing the microinverter.

  • Avoid pinched cables

AC cables (click to expand)

  • Only use proprietary QCells AC cables.

    • Can run QCells AC cables up until the junction box

      • ONLY from the junction box to the combiner, can use non QCells AC cables.

    • Can run QCells AC cables direct if not using the Junction box.

    • For long home runs

      • Use the voltage rise table and ensure we do not run direct (Have to use a Jbox).

Combiner requirements

  • Maximum 80A DG breaker

    • 4 x 20A breakers

Combiner requirements (click to expand)

  • Maximum 80A DG breaker

    • 4 x 20A breakers

    • 95A with gateway (80A DG breakers + 15A Gateway breaker)

  • Acceptable breaker types

    • Eaton (BR) ONLY

      • Maximum 60A (BR260) single breaker

    • No Quad or Triplex

  • Wiring & Phasing

    • PV2 breaker must be wired with L2 to the top breaker terminal due to its position on the bus (see image below)

  • Equipment location

    • No direct sunlight

    • No southern facing

  • Internet & Communication Requirements

    • Cell Modem / Cell Kit (Required for all LR projects)

      • Purchased separately

    • Install Wifi dongle as default

      • Needed for commissioning

    • Commissioning screenshots or monitoring portal verification

      • Connection priority

        • If either (or both) Ethernet or Wi-Fi & Cellular is connected.

        • Device will connect to the cloud via Ethernet -> Wi-Fi -> Cellular as priority. (see image below)

Conduit Installation (click to expand)

  • Bottom Entry ONLY (Recommended)

    • Designated spots for conduit holes shown as 1,2, & 3 (see image below)

  • Designated 'Do Not Drill' zones on the top, side and bottom (see image below).

CT Installation Requirements (click to expand)

  • Specifications

    • 200A QCell CT devices ONLY

    • Wire Run

      • Do NOT run through the same conduit as other conductors.

    • Consumption CT

      • 5.2 m (CT-JS-CLAMP-200A-5.2m) or 25 m (CT-JS-CLAMP-200A-25m)

        • Can extend to 100 m / 300 feet - NOT RECOMMENDED

      • Splicing - Can splice CTs together

        • If matching models ONLY

        • Up-to 2 pairs ONLY

          • Recommended - 2 wire twisted (300V, 18-20 AWG)

    • Production CT

      • Pre installed in the combiner panel

      • External Production CT

        • 2 m

      • Any production CT is NOT ALLOWED TO SPLICE / EXTEND

Consumption CT Location Requirements (click to expand)

  • Load + Solar

    • CTs shall be configured to measure all home loads + solar as default.

    • Verify settings located in commissioning settings

  • Load Only

    • Can be configured to only measure home loads only.

      • In the event of any MSP constraints that do not allow for Load + Solar configuration.

    • Verify settings located in commissioning settings

  • CT polarity & Labelling

    • Consumption CTs - Pointing towards loads (away from source)

    • CTs can have polarity reversed remotely via monitoring portal or commissioning app

  • CT wires termination point

    • CT shall be terminated on the dedicated C1 & C2 terminals.

  • External Production CT

    • If installing more than 44 modules on additional strings in an off the shelf sub panel.

      • CT polarity & Labelling

        • Arrowing point away from source (PV)

      • CT wires termination point

        • CT shall be terminated on the dedicated P2 terminals

Commissioning Requirements (click to expand)

  • Commissioning photos (if no monitoring access is provided)

  • Review the resources here

    • WiFi dongle & Cell Modem / Cell Kit needed for commissioning

      • Cell Kit purchased separately

  • PCS

    • Backfeed Power Limitation (Current Limit out of the combiner)

      • PV ONLY

        • PV backfeed breaker does not need to follow NEC 705.12

          • Example: For a 200/200A panel, backfeed breaker does not have a limit at 40A (follow AHJ discretion), as long as backfeed power limit is set at 40A.

    • Busbar Overload Control - Pending release (No ETA)
